CLASSIC EVEREST TREK

(Sept-Nov: grade 4: 22 days)

This trek follow the classic approach to "Sagarmatha" or Mount Everest. A seven-hour drive brings you to Jiri from where the trek to wards Everest begins. This interesting route takes you through the Sherpa village of Solokhumbu, over some passes and through beautiful forests and past a number of monasteries. Trekkers will have the opportunity to climb Kalapater (5,545m/18,188 ft), overlooking the base camp area and offering a superb view of Everest, Nupse and Loste. A flight from Lukla will take you back to Kathmandu.

EVEREST BASE CAMP TREKKING

This short Everest trek brings you some of the most beautiful mountain scenery, passing through Sherpa village, stunning landscape and monasteries to the Everest Base Camp. It will also give you a chance to climb to Kalapattar (5,545m), with its superb view of Everest, the South Col, Khumbu Ice Fall and others.

ITINERARY
    Day 01 ARRIVAL IN KATHMANDU

    Arrival and transfer to the hotel.

    Day 02 KATHMANDU

    Half-day sight seeing of Kathmandu valley. Sightseeing places are: Pashupatinath Temple, Boudhanath Stupa and Kathmandu Durbar Square. Rest of the day preparing for the trek to Everest Base Camp.

    Day 03 LUKLA

    Fly Kathmandu to Lukla by air (2800m)

    Day 04 PHAKDING

    The altitude falls from Lukla (2800m) to Chablung (2600m) situated in the north. The journey passes through alpine forests. Yaks and cows are found aplenty here. GHAT (LAWA) at 2530m is one of the small hamlets before reaching Phakding at 2800m.

    Day 05 NAMCHE BAZAAR

    The trail continues north from Phakding to Namche Bazaar. The Dudh Kosi river traverses the entire path. Isolated settlements like Benkar (2700m), Chomoa and Jorsale (2810m) come in the way prior to reaching Namche Bazaar (3440m) NAMCHE BAZAAR is a hub of activity as well as the administrative center for the Khumbu region. Hotels, restaurants, shops and other offices are found here. Sherpas mostly reside in this village.

    Day 06 NAMCHE BAZAAR

    Acclimatisation us essential before trekking to higher altitude proceeds. This may be done by spending the day by hiking to Thami (to the north west of Namche), by visiting Khunde or Khumjung (North of Namche) or by relaxing and exploring Namche Bazaar.

    Day 07 TENGBOCHE

    Tengboche lies to the north-east of Namche Bazaar. At Phunki Thanga (3250m), the Dudh Kosi cross the trail. Tengpoche (3810m) is a two - hour climb from Phunki Thanga. Mt. Everest and other peaks can be seen from here.

    Day 08 TENGPOCHE

    Acclimatizing is optional but recommended. Spend a day hiking, climbing and exploring the monasteries.

    Day 09 PHERICHE

    The trek continues in a north-eastern direction via descent to Devuche through a forest where Nepal's flora and fauna are abundant. This includes the national bird, the Himalayan monal or impeyan pheasant ( called Danfe), which lives only at high altitudes. Enroute is Pangboche at 3860m, the highest year round settlement in the valley. The route now enters alpine meadows (most of the vegetation is scrub juniper and tundra) before arriving at Pheriche (4240m) Pheriche is a relatively cold place requiring trekkers to carry their warmest clother. Medical help relating to altitude sickness is available here.

    Day 10 PHERICHE

    Acclimatisation is strongly recommended in Pheriche. Rest, explore or hike depending on condition.

    Day 11 LOBUJE

    Trekking along the Khumbu Khola river, Lobuje lies to the north of Pheriche. The trek is via a north-west and later northern route. Lobuje lies at 4930m.

    Day 12 GORAK SHEP

    Gorak Shep (5160m) lies north east of Lobuje and was the base camp for the 1952 Swiss Everest Expedition. Kala Pattar meaning "black rock" lies a little north to Gorak Shep and provides the best vantage point for viewing Mt. Everest.

    Day 13 LOBUJE

    For avoiding altitude sickness at Gorak Shep it is necessary to descent 300m to Lobuje.

    Day 14 DINGBOCHE

    Enroute from Lobuje to Pheriche, trek left from Duglha to Dingboche (4410m)

    Day 15 TENGPOCHE

    Tengboche lies to the south west of Dingpoche enroute to Namche Bazaar

    Day 16 NAMCHE BAZAAR

    The south west trek to Namche Bazaar continues.

    Day 17 LUKLA

    Trekking is southwards towards Lukla (2800m)

    Day 18 KATHMANDU

    The flight takes about 45 minutes from Lukla to Kathmandu. Rest of the day in leisure.

    Day 19 KATHMANDU

    Full day sight seeing of Kathmandu valley. Sight seeing points are: Patan Durbar Square, Bhaktapur Durbar Square, Swoyambunath Temple and Budanilkantha.

    Day 20 KATHMANDU

    Day free for shopping and relaxing.

    Day 21 DEPARTURE

    Departure as per flight schedule after breakfast.
